Adding glass panels to wooden staircase

by Jono555 » Fri Sep 25, 2020 2:57 pm

Looking for a bit of advice, as per attached have a wooden staircase with spindles that I would love to add glass panels to as per sample photo also attached. Just wonder if is it possible to keep the top and bottom rail and just add the necessary glass panels required ? If so where is the best place to purchase the glass and necessary brackets to hold the glass panels in place ? Rather than get a company in to supply and fit was thinking it would turn out a lot cheaper just to buy the necessary myself and get a joiner to fit.. worth doing it this way ? Any advice much appreciated. John

Hi jono555
Replacing the spindles should not be a problem. You will need new fillet strips to fit the top and bottom channels where the spindles are located. You will have to fit new corner pieces at either end of the landing bannister. Clips are available on line, glass you can order from any glazing firm but they will need templates and it will take some time because the glass must be toughened with ground edges.
