Protecting new patio from rain until I can point it?

by Craigus88 » Thu Sep 24, 2020 4:34 pm

Afternoon all

Hopefully a very simple question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere on forums or Google

I have started laying an Indian sandstone patio over the last few days. Full mortar bed. It has had a good few days to dry out in the recent warm weather

However I haven't pointed it yet as still a few slabs to go down and probably won't get round to it until next week

My question is, do I need to cover it to protect from rain until pointing has been completed? Bit of a faff covering/uncovering but I'll be gutted if it affects what I've done so far

I'm thinking mortar should be dry, therefore no impact but wondered if I'm missing a trick? Any advice much appreciated

Hi craigus88
Doesn't matter which way you proceed you will need the top face of the slabs to be dry or your pointing material will stain the surface.
