Connect hose pipe to 68mm drain water down pipe

by cpriest » Sun Oct 04, 2020 5:29 pm

Hi,

I've recently got a hot tub and have to change the water every 6 weeks or so. I don't have anywhere on the patio for the water to go, so I'm looking to drain the water into the rain water downpipe that comes down from the guttering. This goes straight into the ground instead of into an open drain.

I've figured out I can get a pipe boss to tap into the drain pipe, but I can't figure out what connectors I would need to convert this into a hose pipe male connector.

The hose is just to connect to a mail connector on the hot tub to the male connector that I need to add to the pipe boss. It doesn't have to be a male connector, but anything that can convert a standard hose pipe onto a standard sized plastic pipe used for a pipe boss.

I've spent hours researching, but can't find anything that bridges the gap. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Hi cpriest
I take it that you do not have access to the inside of the downpipe to fit a tank boss so suggest you cut a hole and for a cable grommet (one with fingers) so you can push the hose into it.

Hi Stoneyboy,

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I think I know what you mean. Like the kind of thing you use on desks to push cables through?

I might be overthinking this, but I was looking for a solution where the rainwater wouldn't escape from the down pipe and also wanted to reduce the risk of detritus getting into the pipe.

I've attached an image of what the pipe looks like. Sorry for the terrible quality of the image. The hot tub is on the other side of the fence, so I will be drilling a hole through that and then need to just connect it to the pipe. I might make something a bit more sturdy and have a hose connector on the other side of the fence for easy attachment and detachment of the drainage hose.

The bosses I was looking at were like this: https://ebay.us/PO0ZxG
It would mean I could open a hole from the outside of the pipe and dry weld it on. I'm then left with a 21.5cm hole however, so I'd need to put something into it to reduce it down to a 15mm hose pipe.

Does that make sense or is this just overkill?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi cpriest
You could certainly use the condensate adaptor, fit a short piece of condensate pipe through the fence and fit a 3/4 BSP adaptor on the end which would allow you to use a standard hose connector used on outside taps. Form an inverted U in the hose and this will stop any backflow from the downpipe into your hot tub.

Hi Chris, really interested in the outcome of this. I’ve got the same problem... what did you end up doing?
