What is causing this?

by Ashers » Sat Oct 24, 2020 6:12 pm

Hello,

Any thoughts on what could be causing black mold to appear around the edges of this window?

This started last winter and stopped over the summer but has started appearing again this month.

New window 2 years ago when we moved in.

Could this be related to the window being installed poorly?

We have the window open when we cook.

Hi ashers
The problem is because the frame of the new window is narrower than the original. The inside edge of the outside brickwork is therefore inside which gives a cold bridge.
The only solution is to have a narrow upvc trim fitted around the inside of the window.

Shouldn’t they have picked that up when installing the window?

Hi ashers
Sadly it’s a very common problem which many installers overcome by fitting the internal trims, this is also an easy way of concealing damaged plaster.
