Why is this light not working? Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Missus bought a light off facebook and gave it to me to fix today. Not a total novice(!) so wired it as well as I thought, sat back, flicked the switch and nothing happened. I know the bulb is ok so what might be up? Have included pics to clarify..
Any help appreciated.

I would suggest you disassemble the light fitting, check / replace the wiring and the lamp holders. (Which you do not show) I would also have to ask, was it being sold as not working?
