How do I repair broken render on my Victorian bay window sill?

by andrew_webb@live.com » Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:51 am

I have a Victorian bay window with sandstone window sills. The render has broken off the underside of the sills and rain water is now able to penetrate into my house, causing water stains on the inside painted brick wall.

Wondering what is the cheapest way to fix the broken render but with a watertight end result?

Many thanks

Hi andrew_webb@live.com
Vigorously scrape away all loose material then render underneath using rapid setting mortar forming a drip groove as you work, leave the mortar line clear at this stage. Once the render has set repoint the mortar line.
This will not be a permanent solution because in time the sandstone will shed the rendering, the only permanent solution is to buy new cills.
