Hi,

Started painting our kitchen, and one wall immediately showed a brown patch through the first coat.

We took the paint back to the plaster before painting, or at least i think it was the plaster. I've attached a photo to show what I mean?

Can anyone help with diagnosing and fixing the problem?

Suggest you start by applying a stain block paint to the area and beyond, probably 2 coats.
