Wits end - bathroom trap leaking

by Accountantbytrade » Sat Nov 07, 2020 4:11 pm

I have a brass plug waste and am connecting it to a low profile trap but I can’t stop the trap leaking. It leaks just below the collar. I have tried 4 traps now so I don’t know what to do. Brass waste has ptfe on but not used anything else. It leaks where the arrow is on the picture. Please help. I can’t buy anymore traps!

Hi accountantbytrade
It looks like you are using a waste with an overflow collar on it and the waste is not long enough, so the trap nut cannot do up enough to clamp the rubber seal.
Buy a longer waste and don’t use ptfe tape, it’s not needed.

Stoneyboy!!!! You are a genius. That's exactly the issue. It won't tighten up enough to clamp the seal together. I tried to put two washers in to help but that was a rubbish idea. Can you recommend a longer waste otherwise I will just have a look next time I am in the shop. Alternatively I could cut it down.

Thanks again!

Hi accountantbytrade
Thanks, if you can take the waste out, go to a proper plumbers merchants and select a longer one.
