Small tuning fork shaped tool for removing a light bulb

by BlueCaerphilly » Thu Nov 19, 2020 2:31 pm

Hi All, my parents in law (pensioners) have a light fitting that came with a small tuning fork shaped tool to remove the light bulb. The tool is lost, they can’t find the box or receipt with name of light fitting (which would have helped search the Internet for a replacement ). Basically the two prongs (on the tool) enter holes either side of the light bulb and my father in law says he remember either just pressing it in to the two holes or pressing it in and twisting in order to remove and then inset a new bulb. The fitting is about 2 or 3 years old

Could you post a couple more pictures please. You know what you are looking at, I for one don't know.

It does look like a capsule lamp which pulls straight out (Only try when the lamp is off)

One slightly further away from the light fitting / different angle would help.

The quartz bulb is damaged if any grease get on it, I will guess the device is simply to allow fitting without touching with fingers, the sleeve the bulb comes in will do the same job.

Sorry. Had to go to their house to take more pictures. My father in law is sure the two prong (looks like small tuning fork) inserts in the two holes either side of bulb and then you turn it. So I can see how the bulb could just be pulled out.

Really sorry. Given you wrong information my father in law has just told me the tuning fork shaped tool doesn’t just removal the bulb it removes a lamp holder including the bulb. So when this is removed you can change the bulb and then after inserting new bulb into the holder you use the tool to reinsert the holder and bulb.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, they do not know the make of the light fitting, so can not google that. And it’s only two years old and they have two light fittings so quite expensive to have to change them both for the sake of this tiny tool.
