Metal Handles for old Aluminimum Windows

by Boothros » Thu Nov 19, 2020 5:31 pm

I live in an old (1970s) rented property. The windows have been replaced at some point (I presume) but are still old, being metal (aluminium?) double glazed units, rather than uPVC. When I moved in, one of the window levers had broken off. This was eventually replaced by the landlords builder whose presence is somewhat rare. My neighbours window lever broke yesterday. Is there anything I can do or should be doing to maintain the life of the window levers? When I moved in, I thoroughly cleaned and lubricated all the casements so all my windows now work well but if a handle breaks, I’m a bit stuffed. Landlord is very slow about getting things done, but the benefits of the property and the rent I pay outweigh any concerns about that. All I really want to know is, what can I do to prolong the life of aluminium window handles if anything?
