Getting at tap washers in C spout monobloc kitchen tap

by Adaldan » Wed Dec 23, 2020 8:24 pm

Hi all

The picture is too big to upload but I’ve got a C spout monobloc kitchen tap with lever controls which is making a lot of noise and I think I’ve established that I need to change the washers. However, after undoing the little screw at the end of the levers, I just can’t take the casing off to access the washers. Is it just a case of yanking hard? The levers definitely don’t unscrew. Any advice would be very gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.

Hi adaldan
If you taps are 1/4 turn you cannot replace washers because there are none - you will find ceramic cartridges.
The tap heads will be fitted on a splined shaft and with corrosion can be difficult to remove - a straight pull is needed.

Thanks for that. Does that mean that if I change the whole valve, it’ll sort out the problem or do I need to install a new tap? Thanks in advance.

Hi adaldan
If you replace the ceramic disc inserts it should sort out the leak. Whether you will be able to buy replacement inserts is doubtful, so a new tap may be your best option.
