Cracking and issues after RSJ installation

by Suirowy » Tue Jan 05, 2021 4:30 pm

We had an RSJ installed when a load bearing wall was removed between kitchen and dining room.

Measurements, discussions and checks all done with building contro office who made several visits throughout the process and OK'd everything. Started to see some small cracks a few weeks or so afterwards and these have continued to grow and appear more upto the current date which is approx 6 months since installation.

Can anybody advise how serious these are?

Caveats worth noting:
- no sticking doors or windows yet
- no obvious signs of floor sloping (anymore than it already did in this old House)
- very old plaster on some parts of the walls where the cracking has been seen. In other parts of the house where similar age of plaster we've had to go back to brick due to the poor state it was in. After removing wallpaper when we moved in lots of the walls had hairline cracks as it's clear the wallpaper layers had been there for decades.
- where new plaster has been done in the house over last 12 months so signs of cracking

Hi suirowy
Installation looks fine, suggest you monitor cracks over the next few months.
