I have an existing curtain pole, around 4” in diameter – attached to each end is a heavy plaster finial. The finial is attached to the pole using a wooden dowel. The dowel is bonded in to the finial and then slides in to the pole, a screw then goes through the pole holding the dowel in place.
I am looking for a better way of securing the plaster finial to the pole, the existing method results in a gap between the finial and the pole and it doesn’t look as secure as I would like. I’ve looked at dowel screws but they are not substantial enough for my application – the finial weights around 1kg.
