Reduced cold water flow after hard frost, possible leak?

by paulsandi » Wed Feb 17, 2021 11:29 pm

I have a combi boiler and a mixer tap over my bath. After a period of hard frost I WONDERED (NOT CERTAIN) if the cold tap was running at a lower flow than previously and feared a leak. However, I have established that both the hot tap and the cold tap are delivering exactly the same amount of water. Does that suggest that there is not a leak?
Does a combi boiler control the water flow to the hot tap and the cold tap and make them exactly the same?
Thank you very much in anticipation of your kind assistance.

Hi paulsandi
If the flow (ie litres per minute) from both hot and cold taps is the same and the hot tap continuously runs with hot water you are very lucky. It is more normal for the hot supply to be throttled back so the combi can cope, so the hot flow would be lower.

Hello Stoneyboy,
Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to help.
Both the hot water and the cold water taps are each delivering roughly 12 litres per minute. Are these both within a normal range and is it just coincidence that both are delivering 12 litres?
Could they be the same because of a leak with the cold supply?
Many thanks for your kind assistance which is greatly appreciated.
