Advice on choosing screws for bookshelves

by SighMartini » Wed Mar 10, 2021 3:49 pm

Hi there, I've been googling but I seem to be getting more confused.

(https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/bergshult- ... s99290623/)

I am hanging 120cm particleboard IKEA bookshelves with 3 brackets into brick masonry and I can't work out what size screws and wall plugs to use. Ideally they'll be bearing two layers of books so they'll need to be strong.

I have an impact drill and I've hung a couple using 40mm screws/plugs and they feel secure but now I'm worried the screws are too short?

Many thanks

Hi sighmartini
It looks like you will be loosing 20mm of the screw length in the bracket so suggest you go for 60mm screws.

Ah, good point. Any recommendation for the screw gauge, drill bit size and plug size? I'm drilling into brick with a layer of plaster on top
