(URGENT) Potential Damp on a property I want to buy Damp can be a major issue in the home. Find answers to questions or post your own here.

Hi All,

I have a property that I want to buy that has some damp issues (see attached).
There are potential issues in two of the bedrooms.

Additional details:
- Bedroom 3, which has the worst of it, is next to the family bedroom.
- There is a loft above the 1st floor that has been packed full of books and junk about knee high (could be interrupting the overall ventilation of the property through the roof).
- The property was let out for a decade to tenants who didn't like opening windows to ventilate the property.


Questions:
1. What kind of damp is that (I assume condensation because it's on the 1st floor, but idk)?
2. Do the kitchen and Master Bedroom also have damp? What is that in the Master Bedroom?
3. Are the damp issues workable are workable and manageable with some specialist help and care (bearing in the mind the details above)? Or is this property one to avoid?
4. How much would it cost (very rough guesses) to redo the room which has the worst of it?

Hi tefenomics
This all looks like mould due to condensation but if the tiled room is on the ground floor this may be rising damp.
The biggest problem will be whether the mould has penetrated the plaster and if it has a hack off and replanted may be the only solution. Until the depth of penetration has been established costs are an unknown.

It looks like you have a couple of different issues here. Rising damp at the lower level, condensation and also mould growth which was initially caused by condensation but has got much worse because of no immediate treatment. You should contact a damp surveyor to diagnose each issue and then recommend a practical treatment for each area.
