Improving appearance of wooden floors

by photosynthesize » Fri Apr 16, 2021 9:40 am

The previous owner of my flat took up the carpets and did a DIY job on the floorboards. There are nails sticking up (I've hammered them in but I think the boards flex as we walk over them because a day or two later they're back up), uneven gaps between the boards and the finish is now very scuffed. I don't know what wood they're made of or what treatment they've previously had.

Bearing in mind I have a) very little money, b) furniture in situ which I could move as I go along but not remove from the flat, and c) a dog who has to stay in the flat with me - what can I do myself to improve their appearance? Pics attached.

Hi photosynthesize
To be honest you will never get these boards looking good as a wood finish. Suggest you try a floor paint - bang the nails down again and the paint will help some of them stay down. If painting is not successful you can move on to laminate or carpet.
