Are these cracks normal 2 weeks after full slate re-roof

by Rich05UK » Sun Apr 18, 2021 1:11 am

Hi All,

I had a full re-roof using reclaimed slates on my Victorian house, it was completed just over 2 weeks ago. I have agreed for the scaffolding to stay up so I can sort out new guttering and noticed that there are some cracks appearing along the edges (not sure what this is called) in what I think is cement (again not sure what material is used here)?

The images are of 2 separate cracks.

Thanks.

Hi rich05uk
You have what is called a mortared verge and it is quite normal for cracks to appear because the mortar shrinks.
May be worth seeing if a continuous verge capping can be fitted to cover the edge.
