Blanking off a socket after moving a TV

by dc100 » Thu May 13, 2021 4:00 pm

I’m looking to put a tv bracket up and looking to completely remove the single electrical socket midway up the wall behind where the tv will be. The tv sits completely flush with the wall so the socket being there won’t allow this.

I’m looking to terminate the wires in a connector block before electrical tape over them. Then tucking them into the recess behind the drywall. There will still be power to it and I plan on reconnecting the socket into the hollow when I move house in the future.

Are there any glaringly obvious issues with this method?

There seems to be a dual supply to this single socket. Two live, two neutral and 2 earth. Do I need to connect each together in a connector block?

Use 32Amp rated WAGO connectors, not only are they better than choc bloc and sticky tape, they are what is known as maintenance free, choc bloc and sticky tape is NOT maintenance free.

Your socket is not "duel supply" its is part of a ring final circuit and must always be that way.

Could you not move the socket? it would then be out of the way AND provide you somewhere to plug your TV into.

Thanks for the quick response.
I will look into getting the wago connectors today.

There’s already a socket at the bottom of the wall where I’ll feed the connections for the tv out.

At risk of showing my electrical incompetence again here but I’m assuming I’ll use 3 connectors, one to connect the lives, one to connect the neutrals, one to connect the earths?

You are correct with your assumption.
