I'm looking at repainting the outside of my house. The brickwork in places has flakey paint and the bricks behind the flaky paint have blown faces. I'm having the walls repointed next month.

How do I go about preparing this for repainting.

Scrape off loose paint/bricks, wire brush surface and if whoever is repointing, has not included raking out joints, then do this as well. You may then decide that rendering may be a better option.
