Bathroom Shower Tray Grouting Cracking

by Highfly117 » Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:36 pm

Hi All,

I have a bathroom shower tray and it seems to be grouted in around the top edge, the material is hard and not like silicone, This has started to crack and need regular cleaning to stop it going a dirty colour.

My first thought was to let it all dry and then put a coat of silicone bathroom sealant on it however all this did was allow mold to grow behind the sealant and then started to peel off.

Can anyone give me some advice on what i should use to repair this grouting around the edge of the show tray.

Hi highfly117.
Remove the silicone, rake out the grouting, clean the adjacent areas with a scouring powder to remove any soap residues, treat what remains with neat bleach, rinse and allow to dry. Then apply the silicone mastic forming a reasonable size bead, make sure you use mastic with mould inhibitor or fungicide.
Regards S
