Pointing deep gaps with narrow gaps between courses

by willnick » Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:41 am

I was looking for a source of damp and removed a downpipe to have a good look. I found that there are deep gaps between the courses and when probing they went right through the cavity, which looks like it explains the damp. However the courses of bricks have very small gaps of only about 5mm. I am wondering how best to fill these as they are so deep, and I also want to be sure its watertight.

Hi willnick
If the bricks no longer have mortar around them it would probably be easiest to remove a section and rebuild it. Use a very fine sand for the mortar.
