Can Glowworm Fireblaze Fire front be used with BBU Capped?

I have had the BBU on a Glow Worm Fireblaze capped off and a new combi boiler installed but the Firefront no longer works and wonder if capping the BBU means I can no longer use the fire? Is it possible to use the fire without the BBU on this model?
