No heating downstairs- failed motorised valve in brand new heating system (less than 1 year old).

Hi- as my heading suggests we have a problem with our heating system that was installed less than a year ago. It was a complete re-plumbing job with a brand new hot water tank, boiler, new pipes, sanitary wear (everything!) We had issues early on last December when we moved in with boiler losing pressure but that resolved itself after a couple of months. The heating upstairs and hot water was working fine but we had no heating downstairs. The guy who installed everything came back and said the motorised valve had gone. Bearing in mind the heating has mostly been off all spring/ summer and was only used since last December it seems odd that a part would fail so early. Can anyone advise as to whether this is normal or evidence of perhaps (more worryingly) a bigger problem. We have guarantees on the boiler etc. but the plumber is charging us for a new motorised valve.

Hi jennylou
It’s really down to the supplier/installer to sort this out if it is less than 12 months old.
If he is a member of a trade body eg Gassafe you could contact them and see if they can help.
Regards S
