Hi,

The electrician installed our external light using expanding foam as the brick crumbled upon installation. The fitting is screwed into a piece of brick and the hole is filled and the piece of brick secured with expanding foam.

I was told to secure and fill around with with mortar / cement. I just wanted check if this was right / to seek advice as to the best way of repairing and ensuring this fitting is weather proof and lasts.

Hi danh,
It is not possible to see how the light is fixed in place from your image or whether weatherproofing has been incorporated. You could try the suggested “make good” but if this leads to water entering the light you will be in a difficult situation.
It looks like the installer has used an impact drill from inside and smashed the external brick face. The safest repair would be to remove the light, cut out the broken brick and fit a replacement.
