UPVC doors and gaps at top of door causing draughts Post questions and find answers on glazing, double glazing, upvc glazing, conservatory glazing, fixtures and fittings etc....

I had some UPVC doors installed 4 years ago and they are not really up to scratch. There are noticeable gaps at the tops of the doors and so they are drafty and cold in the winter. I had a 'friend of a friend' install these doors and he has since emigrated to Thailand! Whether or not his dodgy windows influenced his decision I don't know. Anyway, I need to do something about it. Please can you advise on the best way to fill the gap? Do the doors need adjusting with an allen key? If so can I do this myself (my DIY skills are basic)? Or are the doors just faulty in which case, how can I best fill the gaps to block the draft for the winter? Thanks in advance.

Looks like setting blocks have either been omitted or not fitted correctly around the DGUs. Pop the beads and see if they are fitted correctly - you will be able to square up the doors by using different thickness blocks but make sure they are wider than the DGU.

Hi, thanks for your help. I've attached a picture below of the blocks I think you are talking about - there are 4 plastic slidable blocks at the bottom of the door. Do you think these are the wrong size? If they were thicker, they would probably hold the door up better.

No these are not the ones I’m referring to.
The blocks you need to check should be fitted on the edge of the DGUs themselves inside the door frame. The only way to see these is to pop the glazing bars which fit in the doors themselves, they are located around the glazed opening.
