Do I need a door for fire regulations? Information, help and advice on many architecture, self build and design problems and issues

Hello everyone.

Looking to remove a partition wall in my first floor flat.

I really want to avoid having a door into the newly created kitchen/lounge space.

I understand there are fire regulations which state the fire escape route from the bedroom cannot pass through the kitchen. Im not sure if this applies here or not.

Any thoughts?

Hi jacksonrtw1,
This is one of those cases where if you ask for an official judgement eg from your local BR department they will probably say yes a fire door is required. Play it safe and fit a fire door to form an enclosed hallway.

doors obviously play a significant part when exiting a building and the regulations state where they should be situated within a building to slow down and compartmentalise the spread of fire.
