Replacing old rotten floor boards - with decking planks?

by ianbradbury » Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:04 pm

Hello,
I need to replace a couple of 25mm think floor boards. I've been searching for replacement boards or sheeting that is 25mm thick and failed.
I noticed that wooden decking boards in B&Q are 25mm think and I wondered if I could use decking boards?
Any/all sensible advice welcome. :)

Hi ianbradbury,
Possibly better to buy some lengths of door lining timber, this is normally 25mm thick. Decking timber will shrink, have lots of knots in it and you’ll have grooves along the length.

Thanks StoneyBoy - good points.

How about MDF?

Hi ianbradbury,
Stick with real wood, it doesn’t fall apart when damp or wet and it’s stronger over the spacing of joists.
