I removed the old electric fire from this fireplace.

Thinking of having a wood burning stove.

It looks like they hacked out some of the brickwork to make room for that electric fire. I removed enough plaster to see the extent of the concrete lintel and I'm worried the support is compromised.

Clearly it's been fine for decades but should I correct this with a wider lintel or is it ok?

Hi wezzoid,
What you have is absolutely fine, just do not cut the opening any wider.
