Odd extractor fan behaviour in downstairs loo

by Blackmane » Sun Feb 27, 2022 7:48 pm

Hi,

We have a light activated extractor fan in the downstairs loo.

It doesn't have a separate switch.

Recently noticed that it sounds like it's struggling to start and takes a few seconds to get up to speed.

I've accepted that this probably means that it's on its way out. What's odder is that when you turn the light off, the fan immediately runs smoothly again.

Is that anything I need to be worried about? Ie does it suggest a problem with the wiring?

We've been in the house about 3 years and, to be frank, the wiring in it is dodgy as you like.

Any help/advice works be much appreciated.

Thanks.

By the time you turn the light off the fan is probably up to speed. I would be inclined to just change the fan, you can get a new fan with timer for less than £20
