Is it OK to install a 90degree bend into a bottle gully?

by richardneedshelp » Tue Mar 01, 2022 4:33 pm

Hello, I have a soil pipe coming from the end of the outbuilding to join the bottle gully which connects into the main sewer under the extension of my house.
As you can see in the two images https://imgur.com/a/uWL9ecH, I can just about fit an adjustable 0-90 degree bend to the other side of the bottle gully. And then fit another one once I'm in the trench to straighten it out.

Or should I think about replacing the bottle gully with an inspection chamber (if it fits) with feeds at different angles (The pipe under the extension is fixed - I'm stuck with the angle because the sewer runs right to left). Although with this option, I'm not sure how the rainwater down pipe and tap will feed into the inspection chamber.

I have building control that will check, but I want to get it right first time, and not have to buy things twice.

Thanks!

Hi richardneedshelp,
Definitely replace the bottle gulley with a multibranch inspection chamber, try to position it so the downpipe hits a 90 bend then horizontally straight into the chamber.

Thanks.

I've ordered an inspection chamber, 2x adjustable bends.

For posterity, this is what I'll do. https://imgur.com/a/ySzK6TR

Hi richardneedshelp,
Possibly revolve the IC 120 degrees anti-clockwise so you have a readymade inlet for the soil downpipe.

Oh, for the inspection chamber it doesn't have to go out of the dedicated outlet?

The one that is by itself?

Fall is all that matters?

Hi richardneedshelp.
Good point, there’s not much hope for me.
Use an inspection chamber with 5 inlets, that way you should be able to feed the vertical pipe into the IC without too many torturous bends.
