White jelly substance blocking hot water pipe

by Beckylock » Sat Apr 02, 2022 3:23 pm

Hi, I'm hoping someone knows what this is.

A new shower was fitted last week. Great water flow for a few days then the hot dropped to barely nothing. We took the mixer bar off and the filter was full (hot feed only) of this white/see through jelly substance. The substance isn't dirty, doesn't smell of anything. Cleared it away and refitted only for it to do the same thing a week later.

The hot water comes from an unvented cylinder that is seemingly working fine. The rest of the house water is fine.

I've attached a pic of the mixer bar. Its driving me mad, I can't remove the shower every week to clean the filters!

Thank you to anyone that has a look.

Hi beckylock,
Haven’t got the faintest idea as to what the jelly is however the pipe work should have been full flow flushed before the valve was fitted. Can only suggest you remove the valve and flush the hot feed.
Regards S
