Help with painting over textured vinyl

by horsemadhel » Fri Apr 15, 2022 2:45 pm

I was thinking of using the zinsser 3-in-1 primer over my textured vinyl. Currently the room is papered with this & painted in sandstone. Does this primer minimise the texture on the paper? Also if I use this primer would I still be able to use a metallic emulsion? Looking to jazz up a very important room without stripping the walls. The house is old & not keen on having to strip them as unsure of what lies beneath. I just feel it needs jazzing up a bit & looking for ideas. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi horsemadhel,
Zinsser 3in1 is a water based primer and whilst it is recommended for painting plastic I think zinsser BIN might be a better choice. You would have to try a small area to see if it is ok. Successive layers of paint will reduce the texture.
