Covering Over a Chased in Cable

I need to cover a wire in a wall. It has a channel but my plastic capper is a little to wide. The wall is old plaster on top of wood. See picture

Best to widen the channelling and use metal sheathing because it looks like there is not much depth for the plaster to cover the sheathing.
