I have just had a building company fit a new kitchen. Now at the end of the job I find that the plumber they used to fit the new boiler is not CORGI registered and that their electrician also is not qualified. They obviously cannot issue me with the required Building Regs certificates for the work they have done. What should I do?

I hope you have not paid them. If you haven't withhold monies until the issues are sorted.

Speak to your building control department at your local authority. If you involve them they will be able to help. You'll need to get a regularisation applicaiton in for the electrics, and any other compliant work, ie waste pipes, structural alterations etc. You may be able to get it all signed off by a Part P qualified electrician but it will cost.

Do the same with the gas. At least you are covered then.

Report them to trading standards and speak to your solicitor. You may be able to take them to the small claims court to recover any additional expense you have laid out.

Your builders 'tradesmen' have commited an illegal act. As well as the above comments you should be aware that if there were a problem resulting in loss or damage your insurers may not have to pay out.
