Finding replacement basin tap back nut

by Racer_Rob » Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:23 pm

I had a spinning basin tap so tried tightening the ancient plastic back nut which disintegrated.

I ordered a brass replacement. The thread engages but binds up after 2 full turns. If I flip the nut and thread it on the wrong way round the same happens. This makes me think the thread form is correct but the pitch is wrong. The threads on both parts look clean and undamaged.

I thought 1/2” inch is the right size back nut for basin taps. If it isn’t, how do I find the right size back nut ?

Hi racer_rob,
Suggest you buy a different make look for 1/2" bsp on the label. The nut you have bought is probably out of tolerance.

Hi stoneyboy,

I did as you suggested, bought a different brand and it fits correctly! Thanks for the advice.
