Cover hole in ceiling

DIY novice here. I have a gas pipe coming down from the sealing above into our kitchen. I was going to box it in but have decided against this and will settle for repainting it. However, I want to cover the hole in the ceiling that has been left around the pipe as it looks naff. I can't access this from above, so would have to be done from underneath. What's the best way to go about this? Thanks

Hi beckface,
The best way would be to fill the hole with expanding foam, when set trim it higher than the existing ceiling and fill with powder and water type filler.
You may be able to stuff adsorbent paper all round the pipe and again fill as above.
