Thinking of Refurbish Stairs by Painting

by mrwrighty » Mon Sep 05, 2022 8:25 pm

Hello fellow DIYer's. I'm thinking of refurbishing my stairs by painting them completely and adding either a runner or stair mats. I also have a half landing that currently has floor boards. The idea is to paint the all of the stairs and the bullnoses of the half landing and replace the floorboards with a suitable engineered or solid wood floor 16mm to 20mm thick. If thiner I would lay a 6mm or more ply sub-surface to make up the thickness. The bullnoses are approx' 22mm. The upper half of the half landing doesn't have a bullnose so I would remove the boards and put one in. I'm thinking the white painted stairs and a dark board would be a great contrast. I would also lay the same solid wood on the landing. The existing white paint is how the stairs was many years ago before we fully carpeted.
