Wooden window frames - repair & cleaning advice

by chesterfield » Wed Sep 28, 2022 3:52 pm

I'm trying to clean and repair the wooden window frames in my home and need a bit of advice. What is used as a seal between the glass and the wooden frame on the inside of the window?

Hi chesterfield,
Glass panes are usually bedded in linseed oil putty. Unless regular painting with oil based paint occurs the putty dries out and as in your case mould grows in the putty. You will need to scrape out the worst bits, treat with a fungicide, refill with lop and once this has set paint.
Regards S
