Filling hole around pipe in wall

by lcu82 » Sat Nov 12, 2022 12:12 pm

Hello, please could someone advise on how I should fix the hole shown in the photo attached? The radiator pipe in the photo had leaked and ruined the plasterboard surrounding it. We need to fix the hole but we’re complete DIY novices so not sure how to. We figured we probably can’t just use filler as it’s an external cavity wall and if we filled it then it might cause problems with damp as it would bridge the cavity?? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi icu82,
Cut away the defective plasterboard, a pad saw with a coarse blade is good for this, leaving a rectangular hole. Taper the sides and cut a rectangle out of a new piece of plasterboard to fit the hole but smaller. Apply water based grab adhesive to the mating layers and stick the rectangle in place. Make it lower than the main wall so when set you can fill and make good.
Regards S
