Struggling with toilet seat re-tightening

by Sharkenergy » Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:00 pm

Actually not removal, just I need to tighten it. However the fitting is slightly varied to usual hidden style. See photo. The problem I have is, I cannot remove the cap to access the screws it's as if previous house owners glued it on! Any ideas? I've been levering with a flat head but it's starting to buckle the coating. Even if I then wanted to replace I'd still have no luck if I can't get this cap off. Thanks for your help

Hi sharkenergy,
Try using a hot air gun and get the metal really hot and see if this will soften the adhesive.
There’s a good chance it’s held on by cured silicone mastic, try prising upwards enough to get a thin bladed knife underneath to cut through the mastic.
Regards S
