Leaking Ideal Standard Cartridge Tap

by NeilGlos » Sat May 27, 2023 5:22 pm

Hello

I have an Ideal Standard cartridge mixer washbasin tap, it started leaking from around the neck, just below the lever. I replaced the cartridge with a like for like replacement, as this was the advised solution, but the leaking persists.

Any advise on what else I could try?

Thanks in advance.

Hi neilglos,
assuming you lubricated the seals on the new cartridge and cleaned the mating surfaces there is the possibility of a fissure in the tap around where the cartridge screws in.
If you find this is the problem a new tap is the only solution.

Hi

Thank you for the reply. The cartridge doesn’t screw in itself, rather it’s inserted and held in place by three screws. This is the type https://www.mytoiletspares.co.uk/ideal- ... pares.html
Could there still be a fissure, how could I tell?

Being a DIY “newbie”, what sort of lubricant should I have used?

Thanks again

Hi neilglos,
The seats at the back of the housing should be cleaned with a fine grade emery (or something similar), cleaned and then a light smear of silicone grease applied.
Have a look around the area where the rubber seals locate - after you have cleaned them - and see if there are any tracks (very fine cracks which will have stained with minerals in your water).
