Do I need my ceiling replastered after roof leak?

by Minty123 » Thu Jun 08, 2023 11:39 am

I had a roof leak last December (6 months ago), whilst the house was tenanted as I was abroad. Whilst the roof was being fixed, I believe the insulation got damp and caused the ceiling to crack in this bedroom. There are now cracks between what I believe is the drywall on the ceiling. I'm wondering if I need to replace the ceiling completely (drywall and replaster) or if it's okay just to sand and redecorate. I don't want the cracks to come back, but am also limited in my budget. Thanks

Hi minty123,
If the ceiling is rubbed down and redecorated there would be no guarantees that the cracks would not reappear. The best chance of having a faultless ceiling would be to overboard with staggered joints and apply a skim coat.
