Advice on topping up loft insulation

by Wires99 » Mon Aug 21, 2023 9:31 pm

Hi

I'm wanting to add to my loft insulation to make the house warmer. It's a 1930s semi detached.

My query is how far into the eaves to push the insulation. It'll be hard to access, as the bedroom ceilings have a curved finish to the and the loft space is an awkward layout.

I may also need some roofing work doing which I've posted about, there's no felt under the slates.

Thanks

Hi wires99,
Insulating the eaves slope part of your bedrooms is not straightforward. If you do not redo the roof and leave it with no underslaters felt you may be ok stuffing insulation in the edge areas. It’s probable that with the age of your house the rafters may well be 3”x2” so there won’t be much space for insulation.
If you redo the roof you could add sprocketed eaves which will allow additional depth for insulation.
