Fix a hole in 40mm dia wastepipe

by nedtherunner » Tue Aug 29, 2023 3:15 pm

Hi there , looking for some help im doing some work in the 1st floor toilet below the loft conversion we had done a few years ago & have drilled a small hole in the vertical plastic waste pipe which serves the sink & shower in the toilet above ,i cut away the plasterboard & thought i would be able to remove the damaged pipe & replace with the same length of pipe but its been cemented/glued in both ends & wont budge , access is restricted as its in the roof/void space between two floors & the copper pipes for the heating & hot/cold water run above the waste pipe i tried some silicone self fusing tape to wrap around the pipe but couldnt stretch it as per instructions due to the restricted access up there so need to find a permanent solution to fix the leak without disturbing things in the void space. I have isolated the water supply.

Hi nedtherunner,
Cut a short piece off some 40mm pipe, make two cuts along its length so you are left with a piece of 3/4 pipe. Apply solvent cement to the inside and clip over the hole - it will require some force to expand it over the pipe but you can always warm it with a hair dryer to make it more pliable.
