Hi,
I've been asked to address an issue with rising damp in the first course of blockwork above floor level in a garage adjoining a house (dpc is above the first course). The first course of blocks on the internal walls are heavily stained with efflorescence and are spalling. It appears these lightweight blocks are wicking moisture up from the foundation so there's no way to stop the moisture ingress. The Concrete Block Association has advised against sealing the exposed face as this will trap the moisture and cause the blocks to deteriorate faster. I was wondering if anyone would know of a suitable treatment to prevent them spalling and deteriorating any further. Thanks in advance.
