Is splash strip enough drainage for block paving

by Holly1966 » Thu Oct 05, 2023 6:44 am

First time post so hope this is in the right place. I originally put this in cowboy builders but think this forum may be better. I had some block paving laid at the side of the house which slopes towards house. I was told it was fine. I started off very ignorant but have belatedly read up loads on drainage and think it is wrong. They have put a 10cm pea gravel splash strip between block paving and house for drainage except it isn't even that. Most of it is concrete used to haunch the block paving with a light sprinkling of gravel on the top. My thoughts after reading everywhere are that it needs more drainage but hopefully someone more experienced can comment. My thoughts are leave it alone it's actually ok, or chisel out haunching to make the strip more gravel than concrete, or dig it all out and fit an aco drain. All comments welcome

Hi holly1966,
In an ideal world you would dig it out and fit an acco drain, as you say leave well alone - unless you are getting damp in the house.

Thank you for the quick reply. It gives me peace of mind that nothing needs urgently doing going into winter with more rain going into the strip.
