Landing light only getting power when bathroom light is on (new 2 gang switch installed)

by Mitchy210 » Wed Oct 11, 2023 6:41 pm

Hi there
I recently had to replace my 2 gang 1 way light switch outside the family bathroom after it pretty much fell apart when I undid the faceplate for wall painting. I know that 2 gang 1 way switches are rare so I purchased a 2 gang 2 way switch to replace it.
The terminal block in the old switch had cracked and broken so I was left with only one wire in the Com 2 terminal. The others still attached to the brass terminals but not in the housing.
My ensuite has the same configuration of light and extractor fan switches so I copied the wiring layout into the new switch. It works but the fan only comes on when the light is switched on (it should be able to run independently) and now the landing light only switches on when the bathroom light is on and can't be controlled fun the hall 3 gang 2 way switch. This is on a 3 gang 2 way switch on the landing and all the other lights on this unit work correctly.
I've no idea why this is happening. I've tried all sorts of combinations but can't seem to get it right. I'll attach photos of the old unit and the generic photo of the terminal block of the LAP 2 gang 2 way switch I've installed. Any help would be appreciated.

I see no pictures.
For what it's worth, I have never seen a 2 gang 1 way switch. (Always use 2 gang 2 way)
You have obviously wired it wrong, you need to identify what cable does what in order to correctly connect them, to do this you will need a means of testing, since you have no means of testing, I can only suggest you contact a competent person to do the job for you.

Ah, now we have pictures.

Yes, you move that brown wire from over there, and you put it into that terminal over there, and that other brown wire you put it in the same terminal as the 4th brown wire.

Now do you see why it is not possible to tell you via a forum?

As I first said
