Have shower panels and need to fit a thermo shower bar

by niftyprose » Mon Oct 16, 2023 4:15 pm

Hello guys, could really use some hands-on advice here.

I've successfully fitted shower bars into bathrooms a couple of times. Now I've been given just a few days to put a shower into a room that didn't previously have one. There's not much space to play with and just to make things worse the pipes are going to have to go in through an outside wall, plus I'll need to use shower panels rather than tiling because of the state of the walls.

I've got the job under control apart from the fitting of the shower bar. I'll use some kind of fixing kit obviously. The question is, how do I deal with the shower panel? The options are:

1. I can mount the shower fixings directly to the wall, drill through the panel with a holesaw and ease it over the fixing, then screw on the trims and the shower bar.

2. I can fix the panel to the wall, drill through it with a holesaw, put 10mm nylon standoff washers into the holes and screw the fixings to the wall through the washers.

I'd prefer option 1 but none of the fixing kits I've seen seem to have been designed with 10mm panels in mind.

I can't be the first person to have dealt with this?

Best, NP.

Hi niftyprose,
If you use the bristan fitting kit or something similar, it is almost flat so should not cause problems with sticking panels on the wall.
