Connecting a PVC pipe to a clay sewer pipe

by LoughranF » Fri Oct 27, 2023 1:29 pm

Greetings all,

I wish to set up utility room, with a washing machine in a brick shed in our garden. Doing so, entails connecting a 40mm pvc pipe in to the existing sewer pipe. If the sewer pipe had been made of plastic/metal I believe the connection would have been done via a 'Strap Boss' for a sewer pipe. Unfortuately the pipe is made of clay. I would greatly appreciate advice on options. For examle are there other conectors I could use, or could I use a type of strap boss on a clay sewer pipe. Many thanks for any advice that you can offer. Francis

Hi loughranf,
Use a boss strap and seal it to the clay pipe with silicone mastic. You’ll need a diamond core bit to make the hole in the clay pipe and the boss strap wont be big enough so you’ll have to get one that uses a bolt to clamp it together and adapt it.
